Against Delhi Capitals on May 6, star India batter Virat Kohli became the first player in the history of the Indian Premier League to complete 7000 runs. Notably, the 34-year-old hit 55 runs off 46 deliveries against the David Warner-led side and with that, he has moved to number four in the IPL Orange Cap race this season.

Meanwhile, Kohli also holds the record for scoring the fastest 4000, 6000 and 7000 runs in the IPL. Former Australia cricketer, Adam Gilchrist, who led Deccan Chargers and Kings XI Punjab (Now Punjab Kings) in the past, is the fastest player to score 1000 runs while Suresh Raina holds the record for scoring the fastest 2000, 3000 and 5000 runs in the cash-rich league.

Raina has won multiple titles with Chennai Super Kings in the past and also led Gujarat Giants (now defunct) in the past.

RCB lose to DC by seven wickets

Despite Virat Kohli and Mahipal Lomror’s brilliant half-century, Royal Challengers lost the match by seven wickets. Batting first, skipper Faf du Plessis and Kohli started well but the latter’s strike rate was always under the scanner.

Later, Glenn Maxwell walked back to the pavilion without opening his tally and thus the visiting team was under some pressure. However, Lomror with his quick 54* runs off 29 deliveries bailed RCB out of a difficult situation and helped them post 181 runs on the board after 20 overs.

When it came to the chase, England international Phil Salt completely set the tone of the match. The 26-year-old managed to smash 87 off 45 deliveries and helped Delhi win a crucial match as courtesy of this, Delhi still remain in the race to qualify for the playoffs.

When it came to the other batters, David Warner (22 runs off 14 deliveries) started well but couldn’t capitalise on the momentum. Later on, South Africa international Rilee Rossouw cashed in, scoring 35* runs off just 22 deliveries. Axar Patel supported him well as Delhi chased the total down with 20 deliveries remaining.

With that brilliant win, Delhi have now moved to ninth on the IPL points table while Bangalore remain at number five.
