Priyansh Arya has ambitions to play red-ball cricket
The youngster says he has discussed with the Delhi's association for a possible spot in the Ranji Trophy squad for the upcoming 2025-26 season.
Youngster Priyansh Arya became a household name among Punjab Kings (PBKS) fans when he had a fantastic season with them during the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Hailing from Delhi, the opening batter rose through the ranks and put his hard-hitting abilities on display during the cash-rich tournament. The batter, however, does not intend to remain stereotyped for being a T20 specialist.
In a recent interaction, the young cricketer has opened up on his aspirations of breaking into Delhi's team for red-ball formats to play tournaments like Ranji Trophy. While his immediate focus remains on the upcoming Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2025, but the Indian domestic season is starting soon, and the left-handed batter just doesn't want to have a breather it seems.
“After DPL, I will start preparation for red-ball cricket. Last year, as well, I spoke about that I want to play that form of cricket. I will seek advice from my coach Sanjay [Bharadwaj] sir and prepare accordingly. I hope I would be able to make my red ball debut and not just remain a white-ball specialist next season,” Priyansh was quoted as saying by NDTV Sports.
Priyansh reminisces IPL 2025 final loss
The opening Southpaw was in top touch with the bat for the Punjab Kings franchise in the IPL 2025, scoring a staggering 475 runs from 17 games and attacked from the word: go. He formed blistering starts in the powerplay overs, but when it came to the IPL final against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, he did not have the greatest of the outings, as PBKS came close but were left devoid of their maiden title in the league. Priyansh is still not over it.
“After IPL, people have started recognising me more. Whenever I go out now, they ask for selfies and photos. It feels really good to be known now, it gives me a sense of pride. Losing the IPL final still hurts, but now we have to wait for the next edition and by the time we don't win the final, it will stay that way,” he recalled.
Priyansh was a key addition to the Shreyas Iyer-led side in the previous IPL season, and the franchise is likely to put the faith in him once again by keeping the youngster in its retention list.
