'Really want to the win the World Cup' - Rohit Sharma quashes retirement speculation
"I haven't really thought about retirement. But, I don't know where life takes you. I am still playing well - so I am thinking I am going to continue for a few more years," he said.
The 17th edition of the IPL has seen a new avatar of Rohit Sharma. The five-time IPL-winning captainwas stripped off his captaincy duties as the Mumbai Indians management appointed Hardik Pandya as their captain. The move has seemingly worked as despite not making a big score in the five games in IPL 2024 so far, Rohit has provided some quick starts to the team with his bat.
With age being an overriding factor, Rohit has been privy to recent speculations concerning his retirement. He touched upon the same recently and stated that he has not thought about it as he still playing as per the standards set by him. He hopes to win the T20 World Cup 2024 and also take India to the World Test Championship final in 2025.
"I haven't really thought about retirement. But, I don't know where life takes you. I am still playing well at this point in time - so I am thinking I am going to continue for a few more years and then, I don't know. I really want to win the World Cup and there is a WTC final in 2025, hopefully India makes it," Rohit said on Breakfast With Champions.

'I thought we ticked all the boxes' - Rohit on India's 2023 ODI World Cup campaign
Rohit also spoke about the heartbreak India suffered at the hands of the mighty Ausstralian in ODI World Cup 2023. Rohit reiterated that the 50-over World Cup is the actual World Cup for him. He lauded the team's efforts till the final and shared that after the semi-final victory against the New Zealand, India were just a one step away. He said that the trust was prevalent within each team member, however, they could not cross the final hurdle.
"The 50-over World Cup for me is the actual World Cup. We've grown up watching that World Cup. More importantly, it was happening in India in front of our home crowd. We played so well up until that final. When we won the semi-finals, I thought, now we're just a step away. We're doing all the things right. What's the one thing that can make us lose the World Cup? Not a single thing came to my mind. Because I thought we ticked all the boxes, we were playing good cricket. Confidence was there," said Rohit on the show.
