Former India skipper MS Dhoni is arguably one of the finest captains the sport has seen. It was under his leadership that the side relished the unprecedented achievement of winning the T20 World Cup in 2007, the ODI World Cup in 2011, and the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013.

However, since Dhoni left India's captaincy, the Men in Blue have not won any global ICC event. In their most recent campaign, India endured a humiliating loss at the hands of England in the semi-finals of the recently concluded T20 World Cup.

The apex cricket board of India, BCCI is considering to hold talks with the 2011 World Cup winner and including him in team India's T20I set-up. Furthermore, BCCI has also called for a meeting with the players to discuss the dismal outing in the recently culminated event.

BCCI might utilise MS Dhoni's experience

Dhoni has a terrific understanding of the game, be it the 50-over format or the shortest format of the sport. His experience could come in handy for the Men in Blue ahead of the forthcoming ICC tournaments (especially the T20 World Cup 2024) assuming BCCI manages to secure his services.

Earlier, Dhoni worked with the side last year during the T20 World Cup 2021 in the UAE but that was only limited to the event. Certainly, the results during the short term did not reflect well but his involvement this time around could be for the long term with the team.

Furthermore, members of the cricketing fraternity have also opined that the management from within must be changed and some even suggested the name of AB de Villiers to be included in the set-up. There has been no official confirmation as of yet by the BCCI and it remains to be seen how things unfold going ahead.

India are set to play New Zealand in New Zealand in a three-match T20I series under the leadership of Hardik Pandya starting November 18.
