Sam Curran wants to silence Wankhede crowd like Pat Cummins did in Ahmedabad in 2023
Curran has been the man in form for England this T20 World Cup.
English all-rounder Sam Curran wants his team to silence the crowd at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, on Thursday when they face India in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2026 on Thursday, March 05. The statement has reminded fans to a similar one made by Australia's Pat Cummins ahead of the 2023 ODI World Cup final at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
Notably, Curran has been the man in form for England and has been an all-round contributor for the side in their campaign so far. He believes that it was always a dream for him to match shoulders with the Indian team on Indian soil, and winning that contest is the only way that he wants it to turn out.
"Flying to Mumbai from Sri Lanka, you kind of think about what you were dreaming of as a kid; what would you love to do? And that would probably be to take on India in India. It’s such an amazing experience. It will be incredibly loud, and you have got to look at that as an exciting opportunity. If the crowd is silent, England are probably going to be doing well, so that’s our positive way of looking at it," Curran was quoted as saying by The Hindu.
Curran is sure that Wankhede is going to be very, very loud
The star all-rounder has already imagined the kind of atmosphere the fans at the Wankhede Stadium will create on Thursday and believes that it is a fitting milestone to remember what the Harry Brook-led side has done to reach the semi-finals. He now wants the Three Lions to take the last step towards the final, where they will face the winner of the first semi-final between New Zealand and South Africa.
"The positive for us is we have played so much cricket in India, and you just get so used to it, you can block it out. You take it in. It’s such a cool experience, and so many young cricketers would love to be playing against India in the semifinals. Hopefully it’ll be a nice, silent stadium. But I am sure it’s going to be very, very loud and such a cool occasion. Two great teams – this is what the last four or five weeks have been building for. Hopefully, we can take one more step towards the final," he added.
