Chennai Super Kings clinched their fifth IPL title as they beat Gujarat Titans by five wickets in the IPL 2023 final on Tuesday, May 30, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. After being put in to bat first, GT posted a massive score of 214/4 in their allotted 20 overs riding on a splendid knock from Sai Sudharsan (96 off 47). In reply, CSK managed to chase down the revised target of 171 on the last ball of the innings as Ravindra Jadeja held his nerve in the middle.

Following CSK’s another title victory, former India cricketer Aakash Chopra credited MS Dhoni’s Midas touch that helped CSK beat Gujarat. GT had all the top performers of the tournament in their team, such as Orange Cap holder Shubman Gill and Purple Cap holder Mohammed Shami; however, it was the MS Dhoni factor that clinched the victory, according to Chopra.

"Think about it, Orange Cap - Shubman Gill, the top three wicket-takers in the tournament are from Gujarat - Mohammad Shami, Mohit Sharma and Rashid Khan, but who has the trophy? That's the beauty of MS Dhoni and the Chennai franchise. He can touch mud and convert it into gold,” Chopra said on his Youtube Channel.

Notably, Shubman Gill finished as the leading run-scorer of the tournament with 890 runs to his name, while Mohammed Shami won the Purple Cap for finishing as the highest wicket-taker of the tournament with 28 wickets to his name. On the other hand, Mohit Sharma and Rashid Khan were the joint second-highest wicket takers with 27 wickets to their name.

Further talking about the last over of the match, where CSK needed 13 runs to win, Chopra praised Mohit Sharma for executing the yorkers on the first four balls. He further called Ravindra Jadeja’s (15* off 6) cameo special, which helped CSK get over the line.

Ravindra Jadeja's knock was something special: Aakash Chopra

"Mohit Sharma executed excellent yorkers off the first four balls of the final over but ten were required off the last two and they were scored. Ravindra Jadeja hits a straight six and then a four and won them the match. This was something special,” he added.

Following their victory, CSK are now level with Mumbai Indians in terms of most IPL titles won, with both teams having five trophies to their names.
