'There's a lot of momentum that's going to come from this win'- Robin Uthappa on RCB's win over LSG
The win against the Lucknow Super Giants ensured that RCB finished in the top two.
The Ekana witnessed one of the best chases by the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), which also ensured them a top-two finish and an added advantage in the playoffs. The stars of the night were Jitesh Sharma and Mayank Agarwal, who made sure the Men in Red stayed in the game and got the team over the line by chasing down the massive total of 228 set by the Lucknow franchise.
The efforts of the two batters were praised by the former RCB wicketkeeper-batter Robin Uthappa, who said that the team has created a lot of momentum after the incredible win going into the playoffs. Uthappa rightfully praised the explosive and destructive innings of Jitesh in the game and the contribution of Agarwal, who played a crucial supporting role, while the RCB stand-in skipper took the LSG bowlers apart. Uthappa also advised the Three-time IPL finalists that there is still a lot to do in the tournament, and the team should respect the momentum they have created after the historic win.
“It's a great victory for RCB. There's a lot of momentum that's going to come from this win for RCB. But the job's not done yet. One of the things RCB needs to do right now is respect the momentum they've just created from that scintillating, mind-boggling knock from their captain, Jitesh Sharma. I thought that was an incredible knock — full of determination and grit, which resulted in glory,” Uthappa speaking exclusively on JioHotstar.
“Mayank Agarwal’s knock was phenomenal as well. He played the perfect support role with Jitesh and kept finding the boundaries. He may not get a lot of attention, but that inning was critical for RCB’s victory. No amount of praise is enough for that kind of contribution,” the 2014 IPL winner added.
Highest chase by RCB in IPL history
The impressive partnership of 107 off 45 deliveries between Jitesh and Mayank made sure this became a record-breaking chase, as this went on to become the highest chase by the RCB in IPL history. The last time the Bengaluru franchise chased down a 200+ total was last season against the Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
