Team India head coach, Gautam Gambhir, paid a visit to the well-known Maa Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati on Monday, May 26, to seek blessings ahead of the upcoming five-match Test series against England. The devotional move came a few days after the 18-member squad for the same was released by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Situated on top of the Nilachal Hills, the Maa Kamakhya temple is one of the most prominent Shakti Peeths (seats of divine energy) in the nation and possesses a deep-rooted significance in the believers of Hinduism. Images and clips of Gambhir bowing respectfully while being involved in spiritual customs have been going abuzz on social media.

India will face England at Headingley to get the series underway on June 20. Before taking on the Three Lions, though, the senior side will also be featuring in an intra-squad game against India A. This will be the first assignment for the Shubman Gill-led side in the 2025-27 cycle of the World Test Championship. It remains to be seen how the squad copes up in English conditions after the departure of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from the format.

Speaking of the composition of the squad, wicketkeeper-batter, Rishabh Pant, has been appointed the second-in-command to Gill. Meanwhile, B Sai Sudharsan, Karun Nair, and Abhimanyu Easwaran were included on the back of impressive batting performances in the domestic circuit. Jasprit Bumrah will be spearheading the pace-bowling department alongside the likes of Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, and Arshdeep Singh.
Nitish Kumar Reddy and Shardul Thakur are the two pace-bowling all-rounders in the squad. Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, and Kuldeep Yadav are the spinners in the roster. Dhruv Jurel has been chosen as the second-choice wicketkeeper to Pant, and will act as the backup for the glovesman's duties. Notable exclusions were that of Mohammed Shami, Sarfaraz Khan, and Ajinkya Rahane.
