Bangladesh have named a 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, scheduled to take place in India from September 30 to November 2. The wicketkeeper-batter Nigar Sultana Joty will once again lead the side.

The young wicketkeeper Rubya Haider Jhelik has earned her maiden ODI call-up. Jhelik, who made her T20I debut against Sri Lanka in 2023, has played six T20Is, scoring 58 runs at an average of 9.66 with a top score of 20. In domestic cricket, she has represented Khulna and Barisal Divisions.

The squad also includes key spin options in left-arm spinner Nahid Akter and leg-spinner Fahima Khatun, alongside rising talents Shorna Akter and Marufa Akter, who are expected to play pivotal roles in the tournament.

Other notable inclusions are Nishita Akter Nishi and Sumaiya Akter, both of whom featured at the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup earlier this year. Sumaiya, who captained the team in Malaysia, made her ODI debut against Australia in 2024, while Nishita, the youngest member of the senior squad, debuted against Pakistan in 2023 and has two ODIs to her name.

Bangladesh will begin their World Cup campaign on October 2 against Pakistan at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. This marks their second ODI World Cup appearance, after finishing seventh on debut in 2022 in New Zealand under Joty’s leadership.

The Tigresses secured qualification for the 2025 ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier in Lahore earlier this year. They started with three straight wins in the six-team tournament featuring Bangladesh, Pakistan, West Indies, Ireland, Scotland, and Thailand. They faced defeats against West Indies and Pakistan, which left their  qualification chances uncertain, but the team advanced to the World Cup with the help of a superior net run rate, edging out the West Indies.
