Delhi Capitals (DC) collide with Gujarat Titans (GT) in match 40 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2024), on Wednesday, April 24, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

Both teams have been very inconsistent so far this season. There have been various instances when they have looked like teams on the ascendancy. However, the highs have been closely followed by the lows. Gujarat have won four games and lost as many out of the eight they have played. Meanwhile, Delhi have only three wins and have suffered five losses after playing eight. Shubman Gill and Co. are placed at No. 6 on the points table, while Delhi are place at No. 8. These two teams faced each other last week in Ahmedabad. The Capitals won by six wickets with 67 balls to spare, as they chased down a paltry 90-run target with consummate ease.

Delhi will look to bounce back from their heavy defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad, in what was their first home game of the season at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Bowling has been a concern for the Capitals, as they have conceded scores in excess of 230 on three occasions.

However, the addition of young Australian prodigy, Jake Fraser-McGurk has injected some much-needed energy into the DC setup. In three matches, the right-handed batter has amassed 140 runs at an average of 46.67 and a strike rate of 222.22. Abhishek Porel has also been in good touch and has showed a lot of courage in adverse situations. Tristan Stubbs has been in destructive form and he will have a vital role to play through the latter stages of the Delhi innings. David Warner's form will be a concern but if the veteran can get his act together on Wednesday, it will bode well for the Delhi-based franchise.

The bowling department will have to forget the battering they received at the hands of the Sunrisers Hyderabad batters, as the former champions scored 266/7 in their 20 overs. Khaleel Ahmed, who has been the most consistent bowler this season for DC, conceded 51 runs and went wicketless in his three overs. The left-arm pacer has picked up 10 wickets in eight matches and will want to bounce back strongly against the Titans. Kuldeep Yadav has picked up 10 wickets from five matches at an average of 15.20. He took four wickets against Sunrisers but conceded 55 runs. Kuldeep's four overs will be very crucial.

Shubman is the leading run-getter for the Titans, having scored 298 runs from eight games at an average of 42.57 and a strike rate of 146.80. Sai Sudharsan has also made some noteworthy contributions and aggregated 269 runs at 33.62. The likes of Wriddhiman Saha and David Miller have not been at their best and that is hurting the Titans.

Mohit Sharma is the leading wicket-taker for GT, having bagged 10 wickets from eight games at 24.80. Meanwhile, the talismanic Rashid Khan has scaled eight wickets from as many games at 27.25. Teams have tried to play him out and that is why he has not been able to pick up too many wickets. Sai Kishore picked up four wickets in the last game but it will be an interesting call to play three spinners on what is expected to be a flat deck in Delhi.

Arun Jaitley Stadium Pitch Report and Conditions

The pitches at the Arun Jaitley Stadium have changed drastically after they were relaid ahead of the ODI World Cup 2023. The sluggish surfaces have been replaced by belters, where batters can play shots on the up and with a great deal of trust. A whopping 465 runs were scored in the last game in 39.5 overs. Run-scoring did get difficult once the ball got softer but the scales were still tilted in favour of the batters. There was also not much dew in the last game. Batting first wouldn't be a bad option if there isn't any dew on offer. If a team can set a target beyond 220, it will be hard to track down.

Probable Playing XI

Delhi Capitals (DC)

Mitchell Marsh has been ruled out of IPL 2024, but Delhi have no other injury concerns of note. There is a good mix of youth and experience on the side, and if they can gel well, they can be a force to reckon with. Warner firing at the top is going to be crucial. Prithvi Shaw has looked good but has thrown away some good starts. DC should retain their XI from the last game.

Predicted XI: Prithvi Shaw, David Warner, Jake Fraser McGurk, Rishabh Pant (C & WK), Tristan Stubbs, Abhishek Porel, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Khaleel Ahmed, Ishant Sharma, Mukesh Kumar

Impact Player: Sumit Kumar

Gujarat Titans (GT)

Will Gujarat opt to play the troika of Rashid Khan, Noor Ahmad, and Sai Kishore in Delhi? That is going to be interesting to watch. Miller has failed to live up to his potential and there is the possibility of Kane Williamson coming back in. However, the New Zealand batter has also not been in great form and that is why the Gujarat management could look to give Miller a longer rope.

Predicted XI: Wriddhiman Saha (wk), Shubman Gill (c), Kane Williamson, Azmatullah Omarzai, Abhinav Manohar, Rahul Tewatia, Rashid Khan, Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore, Noor Ahmad, Sandeep Warrier, Mohit Sharma

Impact Player: Sai Sudharsan
