The eyeballs will be on New Chandigarh when the Gujarat Titans (GT) face off against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Qualifier 2 of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) on Friday, May 29. The 2022 champions will be relying on their captain, Shubman Gill, to power them through to the final after their horror show in Qualifier 1 against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. 

Gill is enjoying yet another outstanding season in the IPL, guiding GT from the front. The right-handed batter has scored 618 from 14 innings, at a strike-rate of 159.27. Now he is up against the Royals, against whom he has scored the most runs in his illustrious IPL career.

Gill has several unforgettable performances against RR. However, his most important innings came during the 2022 IPL final in Ahmedabad. In a low-scoring game, the opening batter went on to score an unbeaten 45, staying till the end and helping GT win their maiden title in their first year of existence. 

The 26-year-old hit three fours and one six in his innings and forged a crucial 63-run partnership with captain Hardik Pandya to put his side in the driver's seat in the final. He was also involved in an unbeaten 47-run partnership alongside David Miller to take his side over the finish line. 

Key battles for Shubman Gill against the Rajasthan Royals:

Jofra Archer - A player battle that can ultimately determine the outcome of the game is always a mouthwatering prospect to watch. Jofra Archer has been RR's lead bowler all season long and is coming into Qualifier 2 in great form. On paper, the England international has an excellent record against Gill in the IPL. In their seven meetings in the tournament, the right-arm pace bowler has gotten the better of India's Test captain thrice, with the batter scoring just 36 runs off 30 balls.

Nandre Burger - Yet another new ball bowler that can trouble Gill in the powerplay is Archer's partner, Nandre Burger. The GT captain loves to dominate the early stages of the game where Burger is threatening. The South African fast bowler has taken 13 wickets from 12 matches in this season's IPL.

Shubman Gill's Record and Stats against Rajasthan Royals:

As mentioned before, Gill has scored the most runs against the Royals in his IPL career. However, because he only made his debut in 2018, he is eighth amongst the highest run-getters against the 2008 champions. Virat Kohli has scored the most runs against RR with 928 from 34 matches. 

It is also worth mentioning that Gill has hit a total of 61 fours against the Jaipur-based side, the most against any other side in the IPL, one more than his tally against the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
