Days after the English tour ended on a horrendous note, Cricket South Africa (CSA) had a new headache to deal with. Their superstar players in Hashim Amla and Morne Morkel have apparently contemplated about a possible future in County cricket. The Koplak deal has been haunting South African cricket these days and if either of these cricketers signs it, it will be a massive blow to their plans.

Nevertheless, CSA is confident that they will hold on to their players and start building a competent team for the 2019 World Cup. Amla, the 34-year-old, still has a few more years left in him. The Proteas need him more than anyone in this turmoil as his experience can come in handy.

Morkel, on the other side, is being heavily linked with a possible move to Warwickshire or Nottinghamshire. The 32-year-old recently finished as South Africa’s man of the tournament in the Test series and it was indeed a brilliant way to make a comeback. He said that their country is right now going through a bad phase and he’s fully dedicated to give his best to the side.

“I’m committed to the Proteas and for me that’s the most important thing. We’re in a bit of a slump now and it’s important for our senior players to stick together and help the team get back to a place where the public and everyone can be proud of us,” Morkel said a week earlier to The Guardian.

Koplak deal – The South African nightmare

South African skipper Faf du Plessis addressed this a serious concern and described it as a “red flag”. A lot of South African cricketers who’ve been victims of the vicious reservations systems that exist in the country have been parting ways with the national board and are looking for a future in England.

Riley Rossouw, a youngster who was being hailed as the future of their country, was patronized by the County deal and decided to leave International cricket. This sent shock waves around the country and soon, Kyle Abbott too followed his path. With Brexit about to get materialized in some more time, the time is running out for these players to get a Koplak deal as things are bound to change drastically once Britain gets bifurcated from the European Union.
