India is up against England in the ongoing first Test of the four-match series at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The thrilling affair is being dominated by England right from Day 1 as they have produced a comprehensive and disciplined show both with the bat and ball thus far.

India started the fourth innings of the highly-anticipated first Test with a target of 420 runs with just over 100 overs left. With a massive target to chase, the home team had high hopes from their opening duo of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill to give them a blistering start. Both of the batsmen had started the innings on a high note by collecting 25 runs in 5 overs with Rohit and Gill at 12 and 13 runs respectively.

However, the aggressive opener Rohit had a bad day at the office as he was cleaned by the left-arm orthodox spinner Jack Leach on the third ball of the sixth over with a ripper. Leach was benefited from the pitch as the ball pitched within the sticks after getting a flight. Rohit immediately came on the front foot to defend but the ball spun to miss the outside edge and hit the outside of the off stumps.

This was a much-needed breakthrough for the England team as Rohit quietly went back to the pavilion after scoring 12 runs off 20 deliveries. The video of the same was shared by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on their official website.

Joe Root puts England on the top

England skipper Joe Root has emerged as the wrecker-in-chief for his team in the thrilling affair thus far. Root carried his scintillating Test form from the Test series against Sri Lanka and was at his fluent best throughout the match. Batting first, England racked up a total of 578 runs on the board on the back of a stunning double-century by the skipper.

In reply, India somehow managed to score 337 runs as after initial hiccups, Rishabh Pant and Washington Sundar played sublime knocks of 91 and 85 runs respectively. The third innings saw England getting bundled out for 178 runs as Ravi Ashwin went all guns blazing against the opponents’ feeble batting line-up and picked a whopping six wickets.
