This was the phase when Gautam Gambhir’s career was going on the decline. The left-handed opener, who once was one of the biggest strengths for India was turning out to be a burden. A very good player of spin, Gambhir faltered in familiar territories.

He only managed to score 251 runs in six innings. Later, he was axed from the side in the next year with Shikhar Dhawan rising up the ranks. He went on to win IPL titles, score runs in domestic cricket, but never looked the same as before. At 37 years of age, Gauti still battles to make it to the Indian team, maybe, for one last time.

The ‘Turbanator’ is one of the finest off-spinners the country has ever come across. The 38-year-old has 417 Test wickets. But, with the onset of Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Pragyan Ojha, his career came under threat. And, with him not able to pick regular wickets as he did earlier, Bhajji was facing severe criticism.

He only featured in one Test in the England series and was axed from the squad for the fourth Test. He last played a Test for India in 2015 and continues to play domestic cricket. Bhajji is also pursuing a stint in commentary at the moment. and was last seen in the recently concluded India’s England tour.

6. Zaheer Khan

It was injuries versus Zaheer Khan in the last part of the fast bowler’s career. Right at the prime of his career, Zaheer injured his hamstring right in the first Test against England in 2011. Although he played the entire Australia series and the New Zealand series after that, he was never the old Zaheer who used to fox the batsmen at will.

He played the first three Tests against England when they toured India. He wasn’t as effective and picked four wickets in four innings. Zaheer is currently pursuing a career in commentary and is married to Bollywood actress Sagarika Ghatge and enjoying his retirement life.
