The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have been known to back youngsters in the direst of situations. While that’s an appreciable spirit, one needs to weigh in the possible consequences before sending in a relatively inexperienced pacer to bowl the last over against two hard-hitters like Hardik Pandya and JP Duminy. That’s exactly where KKR went wrong when they entrusted young Prasidh Krishna with the ball in the final over of the MI innings.

Prasidh Krishna, on his debut match, had gone bowled decently in spite of going wicketless till the 19th over of the MI innings. Come the last over, Dinesh Karthik took the inexplicable decision of putting the pressure of bowling the last over on Krishna. The move seemed unwarranted as KKR’s star bowler, Mitchell Johnson and Kuldeep Yadav, or for that matter even Andre Russell who’d bowled well in the match, had overs remaining in the reservoir. Krishna ended up getting hit for 11 runs in the 20th over and KKR eventually lost the match by a similar margin of 13 runs.
