IPL 2018: Mayank - Manoj duo pull off an unbelievable catch

The eleventh season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has already witnessed some epic catches. Even in an era dominated by the batsmen and big hits, there are a number of occasions where a single catch changes the situation. In the match between Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab on Sunday, KXIP’s Mayank Agarwal and Manoj Tiwary pulled off an incredible catch.

The catch was a tag-team effort by Mayank and Manoj and it is presumably in no way like any other catch you’ve seen before in the IPL. The duo teamed up to send back England and RR all-rounder Ben Stokes. Mayank produced a stunning effort on the boundary to get hold of the ball and quickly threw it back into the field where Manoj standing at a fair distance got hold of the ball.

In the 13th over of the first innings, Stokes tried to smash Mujeeb out of the park. The ball went too high but did not travel long as he completely mistimed it. Agarwal who was fielding at long-off quickly managed to get under the ball and catch it. However, he was too close to the boundary and also lost his balance. Using his presence of mind, Mayank Agarwal did not take time to throw the ball towards Manoj who ran in from long-on.

Responding to Agarwal’s throw, Tiwary did well to complete the catch. Stokes was striking the ball quite well and the duo’s impeccable effort sent him back. He scored 12 runs from 9 balls and got out exactly when he had played himself in and was hoping to free his arms.

Manoj Tiwary later credited Mayank Agarwal the catch and lauded him for a sensational effort. “It is his (Mayank’s) catch and it should go to him. I was ready for the catch, I just followed the basics and looked at the partner. We are lucky to take this catch. All the credit goes to our fielding coach. They keep giving us catches like these in the practice,” Tiwary said during the game.
