The Indian Premier League (IPL) match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings saw things turn in favour of both the sides on a number of occasions. Sunrisers Hyderabad failed to go over the line in the last over and they eventually fell short of the target by 4 runs. Apart from a tremendous batting display from CSK’s Ambati Rayudu and SRH skipper Kane Williamson’s superb fighting knock, the match made headlines for an umpire goof up during the run chase.

In the 17th over of the match, Shardul Thakur bowled a waist-high full-toss which leg umpire Vineet Kulkarni failed to notice. The game was really close and a certain no ball could’ve well had an impact on the final outcome. The SRH management thus met the match referee to discuss the incident.

The third Umpire should play a major role

During a showformer India opener Deep Dasgupta talked about the no-ball and said that the third umpire should come into the picture on such incidents. Gupta mentioned how during a previous match a ball which wasn’t a no-ball was deemed as a no-ball.

Talking about the match, Dasgupta felt that there was no one to support the SRH skipper during the run chase. Giving the example of CSK’s innings, he said that, Rayudu had a support in the form of Suresh Raina who played a handy inning with a half-century but Williamson didn’t get support like Ambati Rayudu.

James Faulkner, the Australian pacer too was of the opinion that during such crucial moments, third umpire should come into the picture and make a correct call. He talked about Andrew Tye’s no-ball call in the other game a crucial one.

Former Australia pacer Shaun Tait suggested that teams get the chance to refer the LBWs and the edge decisions of the umpire so in the cases such as the one that happened in the SRH vs CSK game, should be referred too. With a lot of criticism aimed the umpires decisions in the ongoing IPL, It will be interesting to see how the BCCI tackle the situation.
