IPL 2019: Jasprit Bumrah assuring De Kock at crunch moment in final wins hearts
In a high-octane match for any bowler, it could have been a moment of despair but not for Bumrah, the India pacer kept his calm.
Mumbai Indians (MI) pacer Jasprit Bumrah got accolades for his magnificent spell with the ball in the final match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Hyderabad on Sunday. The pacer took 2 for 14 in the final to help his side clinch its fourth IPL title in seven years, beating the Chennai Super Kings by just one run in the title clash.
However, besides his performance with the ball, the 25-year-old Bumrah also impressed with his on-field temperament during the high-pressure final. In the 17th over, CSK opener Shane Watson (80 off 59 balls) skied one off Bumrah but Rahul Chahar, who was fielding at deep mid-wicket, put it down despite running in hard. It should have been a simple catch but Bumrah kept smiling, empathising with the youngster in such a tense moment.
Bumrah walked up to the keeper to assuage him
It did not end there for Bumrah either. In the 19th over which was the skiddy pacer’s final in the game, he conceded just five runs and took the wicket of the dangerous Dwayne Bravo. However, the final delivery of the oversaw the wicket-keeper Quinton de Kock failing to stop the ball from going to the boundary as four byes.
For any bowler, it could have been a moment of despair but not for Bumrah. Even as the wicket-keeper was upset, the bowler was seen walking up to the former, chatted with him and even shared a laugh with him before going away. The final over was bowled by Lasith Malinga and he did a good job in restricting the CSK a run short of the MI’s total.
The social media was bowled over by Bumrah’s cool composure in the dying moments of the game and besides the Indians, former cricketer Mohammad Kaif and cricket commentator and analyst Harsha Bhogle lauded Bumrah.
My respect for Bumrah just went up enormously. After that shot of his conversation with de Kock.

Brilliant calmness under pressure from Mumbai. Bumrah's gesture when De Kock missed the last ball and it went for 4 Byes showed his maturity and calmness and Rohit also handled the pressure extremely well. Well tried Chennai. But congratulations Mumbai on a 4th title #MIvCSK

For me this was the best moment of the entire #IPL2019 . With the trophy on line , Quinton de Kock lets one through and it races to the fence . A distraught de Kock thought he had spilled the cup. Jasprit Bumrah the bowler walks up to him and puts an arm around .
ABSOLUTE CLASS. pic.twitter.com/HnAHTKlgSh

Shardul Thakur's ugly send-off to Quinton de Kock or Jasprit Bumrah walking over to comfort the South African after he fumbled a collection off his bowling at a critical point in the final – I know which I would prefer to see more often. #IPL2019Final

Jasprit Bumrah bowled a gem of a spell in a big game under pressure. He laughed it away when Rahul Chahar dropped Watson of his bowling. He consoled Quinton De Kock when he gave away those byes in a big moment. The man is captain material, as calm as a toad in the sun.

Jasprit bumrah is a champion bowler, great ambassador,a role model to emulate . Moms are always proud of their kids and Bumrah’s mom should be mighty proud of raising a gem ! The way he responded to Quinton after his gaffe was the moment of the final ! #CSKvsMI #IPLFinal2019.

When Quinton missed the bye off Bumrah in a tense moment, Bowler didn't lose his cool. Went over to Keeper and smiled together. Bumrah the cricketer and not just a bowler is an amazing asset for #MumbaiIndians #IPL2019Final #Ipl2019 #MIvCSK

This was the second time that the MI won an IPL final by one run and also the second consecutive time. In 2017, they defeated Steve Smith’s Rising Pune Supergiant by a similar margin in the title clash and that side had also featured Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
