Delhi Capitals (DC) started their campaign with a perfect note. They have won three out of their 4 games in the season so far and are sitting comfortably on in the top four of the points table. However they received a major setback in their last game against KKR as their experienced leg-spinner, Amit Mishra, got injured on the field.

Mishra is a vital cog in Delhi’s line up and has picked up three wickets in as many matches. He picked up a flexor tendon injury to the ring finger of his bowling hand whilst attempting to take a catch in the last game and he has now been ruled out of IPL 2020. Delhi has got enough experienced spinners in their ranks but replacing Mishra is going to be an arduous task.

Mishra has played 150 games in IPL and has been one of the most effective bowlers of the tournament. Notably, the veteran cricketer is among the highest wicket-takers of IPL as well. He carries a reputation of a wicket-taker in the middle overs and if Delhi ropes in a replacement, same would be expected out of him.

Here are the three possible replacements for Amit Mishra at Delhi Capitals:

1. Jalaj Saxena

Jalaj Saxena is one of the well-known spinners of the domestic circuit and when he went unsold in IPL 2020 auctions, it came as shock for Indian cricket community. With reliable off-break, he is also a handy batsman lower down the order.

Though he has never played any game in IPL, he has represented Mumbai in Champions League 2014. With an experience of more than 12 years, the 33-year-old spinner could come in as a suitable replacement for Mishra. He has scored up more than 5000 runs First-class cricket along with 200 wickets against his name.

As Delhi already has Sandeep Lamichhane and Axar Patel in their bowling attack, they can go for Saxena who will provide them with the off-spin option. If Delhi picks Jalaj, it will be quite a fascinating experience for the off-spinner as he will get a chance to play along with Ravichandran Ashwin.
