At one point, a few years back, Angelo Mathews was a regular feature in the IPL. The Sri Lankan all-rounder is a utility player and can produce vital contributions in all departments. He played for three teams across six seasons before eventually falling off the radar.

Mathews who played 49 IPL games has been struggling with a few injuries in the recent past. Moreover, he’s had his constant issues with the Sri Lankan Cricket Board (SLC) as well. He is even bowling a lot lesser these days in order to remain injury-free which reduces his effectiveness.

Thus, Mathews may have a good record and is a big-match player. But there are quite a few flaws and it may make a difference. Teams will want to opt for a fresher, fitter and younger players in the same bracket over the likes of Mathews.
