Karnataka batsman Mayank Agarwal hasn’t been the luckiest man in Indian cricket. He had a superlative domestic season last time around and he went on to perform handsomely for India ‘A’ across all the formats. After toiling hard for a long time, he was eventually drafted into the Test team for the two-match Test series against the Windies, which India won 2-0.

Unfortunately, he didn’t find a place in the playing eleven. To add insult to injury, he was also left out of the squad for India’s upcoming Test series against Australia, which gets underway on December 6 at Adelaide Oval. In the meantime, the 27-year-old mentioned that he was kept in the loop surrounding his position in the national team as per reports in Times Now.

I am going to take up off-break bowling

Previously, the likes of Murali Vijay and Karun Nair came out and said they weren’t informed about their position in the team. However, MSK Prasad, the national chief selector, told otherwise. Meanwhile, Vijay has been included in the team for the Australia tour. He did well in a couple of matches for Essex after getting dropped for the last three Tests against England.

Agarwal also mentioned that he turns to retired Indian cricketer Rahul Dravid in case of any problem. “Rahul bhai (Dravid),” he quoted. Agarwal will now play three four-day and as many one-day matches against New Zealand ‘A’, representing India ‘A’. Talking about the matches, he said, “I am going to play to the best of my ability like I play every game of cricket.”

Agarwal doesn’t have a whole lot of experience while bowling, but he aspires to bowl off-breaks and add a different dimension to his game. “Yes I do bowl (off-spin) a bit but yes I am going to take it up seriously. I do make sure that I bowl about 45 minutes to an hour in the nets every day,” he added.
