Aussie all-rounder Mitchell Marsh is expected to be a frontline paceman for them during the Test series in India, but the hard-hitting batsman says he knows how to get runs now more than ever especially after being dumped from the Test team. The Western Australian all-rounder will travel to India as a bowling all-rounder who will likely bat deep in the order and could be one of the two preferred quicks especially in pitches which dictate the need for a side loaded with spinners.

Marsh was banished from the Test team following humiliating losses to South Africa in consecutive Tests at home. He had mediocre outings in both the matches where Aussies were demolished by the Proteas. Following the Test series against South Africa, he was overlooked for the home series against Pakistan which they won 3-0. But his replacement for that series, Hilton Cartwright didn’t even make it to the 16 member squad for the tour of India. Marsh’s bowling was seen as superior by the selectors.

Marsh said that he had been bowling at the “Test level” for Western Australia and also in the ongoing BBL after he was dropped and his confidence in that area had never wavered. Despite this, he considers himself as a proper batting all-rounder and stated that during his break he had reevaluated the way he should do things. “Reflecting on why I got dropped that was probably the one thing that let me down, I was trying to bat like someone I am not, and bat like a traditional batsman, and that’s not me,” Marsh was quoted as saying by the news.com.au.

“I’ve got to go out there and play my shots, play with freedom. I might get out in an ugly way here or there but I think that’s going to give me the best opportunity to score runs,” Marsh added. The 25-year-old youngster feels that he will enjoy in his 2nd experience as a player, after being bogged down by pressure during the first time.

“The biggest thing (he learned from his dumping) is to not get so down on myself. Wearing the baggy green you want to do well all the time and I was literally living the dream for a couple of years playing Test cricket.

“For me moving forward I am going to enjoy it. I know if I train hard and prepare for every game that’s the best I can do and hopefully I will be able to perform,” Marsh concluded
