Mitchell Swepson has been quite literally handed a dream Australian cap after having been named in the Australian squad for the tour of India. While the Aussies have not been successful in their recent tours to India, perhaps the spin-riddled Australian squad could perhaps over-ride the Indians in the subcontinent.

Speaking about his selection, Swepson went on to add that he was rather shocked at the selection as well as owing a great deal to Shane Warne, the legendary Australian leg-spinner as well.

“It’s awesome to get that sort of feedback from the best leg-spinner we’ve ever seen play the game,” Swepson told Optus Sport. “To be honest, I didn’t really know how to take it. I was just so shocked.

“I’m sure when I meet up with him, I’ll have to give him a beer or shake his hand and thank him for all his comments. It’s good to know there’s people out there who like what I’m doing. My phone has been going non-stop,” he said.

He also spoke on those who had reached out to him following his selection. “I’ve had a couple of surprise messages; one from the captain Steve Smith, a couple from some others spinners like Nathan Lyon and Fawad Ahmed, so it was really awesome to hear those congratulations from those blokes. And obviously friends and family have been constantly contacting me so it’s been a big few hours.

Mike Hussey, who has been a part of a few successes in India also was happy for Swepson following his inclusion in the side. “I don’t think so, I think he’s a great kid and … he’s got quite a level head on his shoulders,” Hussey told cricket.com.au. “So I think he’ll just embrace the opportunity and the experience and I’m sure he’ll learn a hell of a lot.

“Ideally you’d want to be picking someone who’s got experience and a good first-class record. He’s been picked on potential and looking ahead to the future. It’ll be a big challenge for him.”
