When a batsman plies his trade on the pitch after accomplishing a half-century, he sees the ball like a football. He is accustomed to the tricks and tantrums of the wickets and the conditions. Moreover, he gets a measure of the opponents’ bowling. However, cricket is a funny sport and always has some other surprises for the cricketers, which spring as a bolt from the blue.

John Campbell was batting on 61 runs from 102 balls and seemed to determined to convert the same into a substantial score. India A and Windies A are currently locking horns in Taunton for the second unofficial Test. After shooting Karun Nair’s men out for 192 runs, the Windies finished with a substantial lead of 110 runs, which seemed a massive one in the context of the match.

The absolute peach from Siraj

In the 31st over of the second innings, with a lead of 225 runs, Shamarh Brooks and his men were well and truly in the ascendancy. On the contrary, India desperately needed a wicket and that’s when fast bowler Mohammed Siraj came to the party. He operated from over the wicket and dished out a short-pitched delivery. Campbell went back and across to counter the ball.

However, the leather exploded off the pitch, the batsman was bemused. It jagged away a tad and the batter had no answer to it. He fended at the delivery, more of an evasive action. He tried to bail out of the stroke at the last moment, but couldn’t stop the ball from kissing the edge of the willow. The ball flew towards Rishabh Pant at the rate of knots and also gained in height.

He collected the ball above his head and didn’t make any mistake. Siraj erupted in joy even as Campbell tried to comprehend the happening which panned out. The wicket also triggered a collapse and the Windies lost their next eight wickets for 85 runs and folded for 210 runs.
