The 2021-edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy concluded in a thrilling manner with Tamil Nadu defeating Karnataka by four wickets in a thrilling final clash. The game went right down to the very last ball with Tamil Nadu needing five runs to get the glory. With pressure being tremendously high, not many would have backed Shahrukh Khan to smash the much-needed six.

However, the dasher did exactly that, smashing Prateek Jain’s full-length delivery over deep square leg for six for a phenomenal six. While the Karnataka camp was left in dismay, Tamil Nadu players went on seventh heaven and the scenes at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi were lively. Needless to mention, Twitterati went berserk and hailed Shahrukh for his special show.

Notably, former Indian captain, MS Dhoni was also following the summit clash. In a picture shared on Chennai Super Kings’ official Twitter page, the wicketkeeper-batter can be seen focusing on the TV screen as Shahrukh put on a batting display in the final overs. “Fini Seeing off in sty7e!” CSK captioned the picture.

As Dhoni himself led CSK to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 title last month, he would be happy with another Chennai side getting the glory. It also needs to be noted that Shahrukh, like many Indian cricketers, idolizes Dhoni and this post would definitely please him.

Speaking of how the game panned out, Abhinav Manohar and Praveen Dubey’s knocks took Karnataka to 151/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Chennai got off to a solid start with Karnatak bowlers struggling to take wickets. However, the scoring rate was always on the lower side. Hence, a collapse was witnessed in the final few overs. Karanataka even looked all set to clinch their third Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy title.

However, Shahrukh dented their plans with an unbeaten 33 off 15 deliveries. The dasher clinched the Player-of-the-Match award for his efforts and expressed his delight in the press conference. “There were a lot of things in my mind, but I tried to keep it simple. The ball was rough and the wicket was slow, so I wanted to connect it off the middle,” said Shahrukh Khan after the game.

“It has been a special thing to hit a last-ball six. I’ll remember this for a long time,” he added.
