‘Naam to suna hi hoga’ – This would be the chants in the Tamil Nadu camp as Shahrukh Khan’s blitzes took the side to their second successive Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy title. Karnataka were in command for the best part in the final clash and looked all set to get the glory. However, Shahrukh’s brief but effective cameo of 33 off 15 balls helped Tamil Nadu defend their title. Notably, the dasher had to hit a last-ball six to seal the game and he didn’t miss on doing so.

Speaking of how the game panned out, Tamil Nadu won the crucial toss and unsurprisingly, opted to bowl first at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Left-arm spinner Sai Kishore showcased his brilliance in the powerplay overs and dismissed both openers, Manish Pandey and Rohan Kadam, cheaply. Karun Nair and wicketkeeper-batter Sharath BR couldn’t do much either as Karnataka seemed in all sorts of trouble.

However, Abhinav Manohar joined forces with Praveen Dubey and the duo brought their side back in the hunt with scores of 46 and 33 respectively. Some final impetus was provided by Jagadeesha Suchith, who scored 18 off mere seven deliveries. Riding on all these efforts, Karnataka posted a challenging 151/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Sai Kishore, with three wickets, was Tamil Nadu’s pick of the bowlers.

While Tamil Nadu would have backed themselves to cross the line comfortably, their chase didn’t go very smooth thanks to some brilliant bowling from Karnataka bowlers. The defending champions started off nicely with openers Hari Nishanth and N Jagadeesan scoring 23 and 41 respectively. In fact, the Vijay Shanka-led looked on command at the 15-over mark with the scorecard reading 95/2.

However, the increase in required run rate meant Tamil Nadu lost some quick wickets in death overs. While Shahrukh Khan held one end and played some delightful shots all over the park, he didn’t receive much support from the other end. The equation eventually came down to Tamil Nadu needing five runs of the very last delivery.

While Shahrukh Khan was the batter on strike, Prateek Jain, who bowled some brilliant yorkers in the very last over, was operating with the ball. It was a full-length delivery on the leg stump which Shahrukh deposited over deep square leg as Tamil Nadu clinched their third Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy title.

Meanwhile, let’s look at how Twitterverse reacted to Tamil Nadu’s thrilling triumph:
