My ultimate goal is to play Test cricket, says Harsh Tyagi

The juniors did not fail from emulating the seniors’ feat in Asia Cup as India pummelled Sri Lanka by 144 runs in the final of the Under-19 Asia Cup recently held in Bangladesh. After India scored 304 for 3 on a challenging wicket, the left-arm spinner Harsh Tyagi demolished the opponents’ batting by taking six wickets for 38 runs.

The 18-year-old, who won the Man of the Match award in the final, however, did not forget to give the team the credit for the win. India did not lose a single game in the tournament although they had a scare in the semi-final against hosts Bangladesh as they won the game by just two runs.

“This is a great feeling for us, we have stayed together for three months now and to win this tournament is great. The team talk was always very positive. We had the Sri Lanka tour, and a quadrangular tournament. Everything led up brilliantly to the Asia Cup and the experiences helped us a lot,” Hindustan Times quoted Tyagi as saying.

“There was no such special preparation (for this tournament), as I said, there were three series which we played before the Asia Cup, so it was a confidence booster.”

Excited to play Ranji Trophy

Harsh Tyagi, however, is looking forward to playing in the upcoming Ranji Trophy season and feels that it will be his biggest Test. The cricketer’s main aim is to don the white jersey for his country and is ready to work hard to achieve his goal. “I am really excited to play the Ranji Trophy. It has to be the biggest Test for me. If I perform well there, I will get selected to play for India ‘A’. For me the ultimate aim is to get selected for the Indian Test team,” the youngster added.

Speaking on his own career, Tyagi said the turning point in his career came in 2013 when he decided to take up cricket as a profession and did everything he could to improve his game. His rich returns in the 2016 and 2017 seasons gave wings to his aspiration even further.
