The Nidahas Trophy for the T20 triangular series recently came to a close with India beating Bangladesh in a cliffhanger at the R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Bangladesh posted a competitive score after which India stumbled alarmingly. However, Dinesh Karthik stomped in, took the bowlers to the cleaners and subsequently, changed the complexion of the contest.

India started off handsomely and looked poised to trace down the target without much fuss. However, wickets pushed them and they were required with 34 runs when Karthik began the onslaught. However, the Tamil Nadu batsman was sent at number seven, below Vijay Shankar, which disappointed the Indian middle-order batsman.

“More shocked than angry”- Karthik

“I was a little shocked. Angry is a bit strong word, I feel. The whole tournament I had batted at No. 6 and then to see Shankar go up, I was a little bit shocked. I have a good rapport with Rohit. Under his captaincy, I have won the IPL. I obviously trust him a lot. I know he respects me as a cricketer. I was more shocked than angry — bit disappointed, yes” Karthik was quoted as saying by the Indian Express.

Meanwhile, he heaped praises on Abishek Nayar and thanked the Mumbai cricketer for selflessly helping him out at a stage, when he was low on confidence. The wicket-keeper batsman was going through a rough patch when Nayar lent his helping hand and dragged him out of the slump through tips and suggestions.

“I think whatever little success I have had now, I owe it to Nayar. He didn’t have to do what he did for me. For him to spend time with me — why should he spend time with me? I haven’t given one rupee to him. What have I done for him? Nothing. He has helped me, been just giving me — knowledge, time, training tips, and he has done a lot for me” Karthik added.
