The Indian Under-19 team has generated a number of prolific talents in the last few months. Their victorious campaign in the World Cup in New Zealand attracted appreciations from every nook and corner of the country. Prithvi Shaw was the skipper of the exuberant bunch of youngsters who played under the tutelage of the evergreen Rahul Sharad Dravid, the former cricketer.

Shaw made his first-class debut for Mumbai in last year’s Ranji Trophy and telecasted his sheer class. Quite deservingly, he was handed the mantle of leadership of the U-19 team and he didn’t flatter to deceive by any stretch of the imagination. Following his exploits at the junior level, he was rewarded with a lucrative contract in the prestigious Indian Premier League (IPL).

Shaw was roped in for INR 1.20 crores by the Delhi Daredevils (DD) for this season’s IPL. He didn’t get opportunities initially but grabbed them with both hands when he got some in the second half of the tournament. The 18-year old spunk notched a couple of half-centuries and captured the imaginations of supporters from around the nation.

Shaw’s foray into India colours

Meanwhile, the Indian selectors didn’t waste any time and decided to groom him for sterner challenges in the future. The management fast-tracked him into the India A team for the tour of England. They will play some four-day matches and a tri-series in their visit. Shubman Gill, who played alongside Shaw in the World Cup, also found a place in the One Day team.

Prithvi will play under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer and Karun Nair in the limited-overs and four-day format respectively. The Maharashtra-born batsman recently took to Twitter and posted his picture in India A’s jersey. He also captioned the same with a motivating one-liner. He wrote

“Be stronger than your Excuse… #bleedblue @BCCI”
