The Lahore Qalandars slumped to their fourth consecutive defeat in the ongoing edition of the Pakistan Super League. They languish at the bottom of the points table at the moment and need some serious revamp to make it among the top crops. In their most recent fixture, they lost to the Islamabad United in the Super Over thriller. Despite a gutsy knock from Agha Salman, the team failed to get over the line.

Agha Salman, who had top scored with 48 off 35 deliveries in the run chase of 121, spoke about his plans for the remainder of the tournament. As per the quotes in Geo.tv, he mentioned that he hopes to fix the batting bugs of his team in the matches to follow.

“I hope to fix [whatever was wrong with my] batting today and continue in the next six matches,” said Agha Salman. Adding further, he noted that he hopes to improve his performances “day by day … and as quickly as possible, pick things along my way to Pakistan’s [national cricket] team.”

On four consecutive defeats

Commenting on the defeats the Qalandars have had to endure in the season thus far, Salman cited that the defeats have been narrow. He feels that once the team fixes those little bugs in their performance, they will be able to pull off better results. He feels that the team has had tough luck thus far. On the personal front, he revealed that he has had sleepless nights every time he has failed with the bat thus far.

“In the last match, when I got out, I couldn’t sleep for two nights … Don’t know if I’ll be able to sleep tonight either,” noted Agha.”Yes, agreed that we have lost four matches but everyone would notice [that] there is a big factor of luck as well. I’m not giving an excuse, but luck is definitely not favouring us,” he added further.

Shortcut to international cricket

Speaking further on the tournament, a very honest Agha Salman noted that PSL is like a shortcut to the national side. Over the last couple of years, the PSL has given the Pakistani team players like Fakhar Zaman, Hasan Ali, and Shadab Khan. He hopes to follow the same path and make a name for himself.

“Yes, it’s exactly like that … PSL is a short way to get into the Pakistani team. It is an international league, so you obviously get international exposure,” noted the youngster.

Commenting on the Lahore Qalandars skipper Brendon McCullum, Agha Salman remarked that the former Kiwi cricketer is a legend of the game. He grew up watching McCullum play and now it is an absolute honor to share the dressing room with him in the Qalandars setup. He hopes to learn as much as possible from McCullum.

“McCullum is one of the best players in the world and we have grown up seeing him play. So, to share a dressing room with him is a feeling that I cannot describe. Nevertheless, we get to learn a lot from them because these are people from whom one can learn a lot. So I’m trying my best to learn as much as I can from him,” Agha Salman conceded.
