Ricky Ponting has recently been appointed as Australia’s assistant batting coach ahead of the upcoming World Cup, scheduled to start on May 30 in England and Wales. The Aussies are in the shambles after losing quite a few matches over the past few months. They have also changed quite a few of their personnel in their management after the ball-tampering scandal at the Newlands.

Australia are the world champions, but many aren’t giving them much of a chance in the next mega event owing to their horrendous run of form. Apart from his national duties, Ponting is also set to be a part of the prestigious Indian Premier League (IPL) where he would be coaching the Delhi Capitals, previously Daredevils who are yet to get their hands on the coveted trophy.

Warne agitated by the rumours

In the meantime, a couple of days ago, reports suggested that Shane Warne, the former Australian cricketer, was unhappy about Ponting, shouldering national and IPL duties simultaneously. It was learned that Warne called for Punter, as Ponting is popularly known, to be banned from the IPL. The spin wizard cited Indian head coach Ravi Shastri’s example to back his comments.

Nevertheless, in a turn of events, Warne quashed all the doubts over the matter. In a tweet, the veteran cricketer mentioned that the talks are baseless. He remarked that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) wouldn’t have taken a wise decision if they didn’t allow Ponting to coach in the IPL.

He took to Twitter and wrote, “Articles on me saying Punter should be banned from the IPL are simply not true – so stop the BS. When asked, I said it would be a silly move from the BCCI to not allow him to coach Delhi because he’s ass coach of Aust. But if thats the decision – then he would have to accept it !,”
