Mumbai player Shivam Dubey doesn’t have a whole lot of cricketing experience, but he has turned up with some impressive shows in the limited opportunities he has got. The 25-year-old is currently plying his trade for Mumbai in this season’s Ranji Trophy and has thus far scored 364 runs in three matches at an average of 91 with two half-century and as many tons.

Moreover, the all-round cricketer has 12 wickets with his best figures of 7/53 coming against Karnataka in Belgavi. He is an effective T20 batsman as well, having notched 189 runs in 13 matches at a strike-rate of 147.65. His ability to smack the leather came to the fore during the inaugural edition of the Mumbai T20 League, which took place earlier in this year in March.

Dubey lays into Tambe

The left-handed batsman played for Shivaji Park Lions and he once took leg-break bowler Pravin Tambe, who represented the Namo Bandra Blasters, to the cleaners. In the Eliminator of the event at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, Dubey hit as many as five sixes off Tambe in one over and helped his team to a six-wicket victory. The over fetched as many as 32 runs.

Dubey notched 54 from 23 deliveries with one boundary and six sixes as the Lions won with 14 balls to spare, chasing 170. In the first ball of Tambe’s over, Dubey smashed a full-toss over long on. Thereafter, Tambe dropped it short and the batter pounced on the loose delivery to deposit it over mid-wicket. The tweaker bowled it full next time and Dubey cleared long-on comfortably.

The next ball was short and outside off-stump and Dubey dragged it to send it into the stands over long-on. He mistimed the next delivery and it landed in front of the long-off fielder. However, Dubey ran a couple as the fielder couldn’t collect the ball in the first instance. In the last delivery, Tambe pushed the ball wide and Dubey found the middle of the bat as the ball sailed over long-on.
