India and Afghanistan faced off in the third and final T20I of their ongoing series at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore on Wednesday, January 17. Coming into the game after already having clinched the series, the Indian team faced off against Afghanistan with a sense of security.
The third T20I began with India coming in to bat first. After winning the toss, the side got off to a horrid start as the top order collapsed. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal scored four runs, with Virat Kohli and Shivam Dube adding no runs on the board.
After the subpar start, it was the knocks of Rohit Sharma and Rinku Singh that stabilised the innings for the Men in Blue. Rohit scored 121* runs in 69 deliveries, with Rinku adding 69* runs in 39 deliveries, helping India to a total of 212 runs on the board in the first innings. As for Afghanistan, Fareed Ahmad was the highest wicket taker with three wickets to his name, and Azmatullah Omarzai took one wicket as well.
Super Over decides Afghanistan’s fate in third T20i
Aiming to chase down a target of 212 runs to get a consolation win against India, Afghanistan put in a brilliant performance. The side opened the innings with Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran scoring 50 runs each, with Gulbadin Naib adding 55* runs on the board as well.
Furthermore, Mohammad Nabi scored 34 runs as Afghanistan tied the score and the game went into a Super Over. As for India, Washington Sundar was the highest wicket taker, with three wickets to his name. Avesh Khan and Kuldeep Yadav took one wicket as well.
In the Super Over, India scored 11 runs, with Rohit Sharma scoring the entirety of the runs. To defend the target of 12 runs, the Men in Blue went with Ravi Bishnoi, and the star spinner delivered, conceding just one run. Bishnoi took two wickets and won the game for India by 10 runs.
