A cricket series between India and Australia is never devoid of controversy. The latest addition to the list is the words of Australian captain Justin Langer who felt that his side’s players would be considered the worst blokes in the world had they celebrated the fall of an opponent’s wicket like Indian captain Virat Kohli. Langer’s words did not go down well with former India captain Sourav Ganguly, who has had his share of rivalry with the Australian sides in the past.

The 46-year-old who had led India in the 2003-04 series Down Under, the last time they drew a Test series in Australia, advised Langer to recall how Australian bowlers celebrated fall of India’s wickets in previous tours before he blamed the Indians’ way of celebrations.

Ganguly advises Langer to see old footages

“I would like to say one thing to Justin Langer. He should watch old footage of Shane Warne, Glenn McGrath or Jason Gillespie from India’s previous tours to Australia and then say something,” Sourav, who is still famous for waiving his jersey from the balcony at Lord’s against England in an act of revenge against Andrew Flintoff, was quoted as saying on IndiaTV’s ‘Cricket Ki Baat’.

Ganguly also reflected on the first Test which is underway in Adelaide between Australia and India. The visitors did well to bowl out Tim Paine’s side for 235 to gain a slender but crucial 15 run lead in the first innings and were 151 for 3 at stumps on Day 3 to take an overall lead of 166.

First innings centurion Cheteshwar Pujara was on the crease on 40 and with the likes of Rohit Sharma yet to come, India would hope to solidify their lead further. Ganguly said India though were in an advantageous position but also added that the first session of the fourth day will be crucial for the visitors if they are to win the game.

“Yes, I can smell victory too. But India is still not totally safe and the first session on the fourth day will be crucial. For Australia it will be tough to bat out there in the last innings,” he said.
