India finally managed to defeat Australia in the ongoing 5-match ODI series by chasing a huge target in the final ODI at Sydney to avoid whitewash. After winning the toss, India invited Australia to bat first. Thanks to some brilliant bowling from debutant Jasprit Bumrah, Australia were 117 for loss of 4 wickets. However, centuries from David Warner and Mitchell Marsh guided the home side towards yet another 300+ total. With help of cameo innings towards the end from Wade, Australia posted 330/7 in their 50 overs. Shikhar Dhawan took India off to a flyer with a quick fire 79 along with Rohit Sharma. But Dhawan and Kohli’s dismissals in quick space gave the feel of 2015 World Cup semi-final which was also played at Sydney. However, Rohit and Manish Pandey didn’t want that to happen as they put on a 97-run stand for the 3rd wicket before Rohit was judged caught behind on 99. Captain MS Dhoni struggled during his stay at the crease but managed to hit a six in final over but got on the very next ball which brought an end to his 94 runs stand with Pandey. Manish Pandey didn’t panic after Dhoni’s dismissal and finished off the game in style along with completing his maiden ODI hundred. Here we look at all the stats and records recorded during game. Previous was 284 by West Indies at Brisbane in 1997. 7 – Number of centuries came in losing cause in this series. These are the most centuries in losing cause in a bilateral series. In overall, these are the 2nd most centuries in a series/tournament which came in losing cause. 11 centuries came in losing during World Cup 2015. 11– Number of century stands in this series. These are the most number of centuries scored in a bilateral ODI series. Previous highest was 9 centuries which was recorded in India-Australia’s 7-match ODI series in India. 3159– Total number of runs scored in this series. These are the most runs scored in a 5-match bilateral ODI series. Previous highest was 3151 runs during England-New Zealand ODI series in 2015 hosted by England. 11– Number of century stands in this series. These are the joint most in a bilateral ODI series. In overall, these are the most century stands in a 5-match bilateral ODI series. Previous highest was 9 century stands which was recorded in 3 different 5-match bilateral ODI series. 8– Number of 300+ Team totals recorded in this series. These are the 2nd most in a bilateral ODI series and the most in a 5-match bilateral ODI series. Highest is 9 totals of 300+ during India-Australia’s 7-match ODI series in India. Previous most in a 5-match series was 7 totals of 300+ during England-New Zealand ODI series in 2015 hosted by England. 3 – Innings taken by Manish Pandey to score his maiden ODI Century. These are the fewest innings taken by an Indian to score an ODI Century. Kedar Jadhav took 4 innings to score his maiden ODI century. 80 – Balls taken by Manish Pandey to score century. This is the 2nd fastest ODI century by any player against Australia in Australia. Jacob Oram’s 71-ball century at Perth in 2007 is the fastest ODI century against Australia in Australia. 128.39 – Manish Pandey’s strike rate is this innings. This is the 2nd highest strike rate in an ODI century innings against Australia in Australia. Jacob Oram’s 140.27 at Perth in 2007 is the highest strike rate ODI century innings against Australia in Australia. 100 – This is the 2nd time David Warner’s ODI century came in losing cause. On both occasions, Australian innings had 2 individual centuries. 6 – Mitchell Marsh’s century is the 6th century recorded by an Australian coming to bat at No.6 or lower. 7 – India conceded just 7 runs in last 2 overs of the Australian innings. Since 2002, only the 2nd time India conceded less than 7 runs after bowling all 12 balls in last two overs while bowling first. Other instance was conceding 4 runs to Zimbabwe in 2005. 23 – Virat Kohli took 23 innings for completing 1000 ODI runs in Australia. Only Viv Richards completed 1000 ODI runs in Australia faster than Kohli as he took just 20 innings. Among Indians, Rohit Sharma completed in 25 innings. 805 – Rohit Sharma now has 805 runs in ODIs Cricket vs Australia in Australia, the most by any Indian. He overhauled Sachin Tendulkar who has 740 ODI runs vs Australia in Australia. 21 – Innings taken by Virat Kohli for completing 1000 ODI runs against Australia. He is the joint 4th fastest to complete 1000 ODI runs against Australia. Rohit Sharma is the fastest to the mark as he completed 1000 ODI runs vs Australia in just 19 innings. 142 – Rohit Sharma became the 6th fastest Indian to complete 5000 ODI runs. Virat Kohli leads the list by completing 5000 runs in just 114 innings. 2 – This is the 2nd ODI bilateral series where Rohit Sharma scored 400 or more runs. Only Hashim Amla scored 400 and more in two different bilateral series in ODIs. 14 – Rohit Sharma has hit 14 sixes in this series. This is the 2nd time he has hit 14 sixes in a bilateral series. Only Rohit and AB de Villiers have hit 14 or more sixes in a bilateral series on two different occasions. 99 – Rohit Sharma’s 99 was the 2nd instance of a player getting dismissed on 99 in ODIs in Australia, Sanath Jayasuriya is the other player. Rohit is also the first player to be dismissed against Australia in Australia on 99 in ODIs. 9 – Rohit Sharma’s 99 was the 9th instance when a player from India dismissed or unbeaten on 99 in ODIs. These are most for any other team in ODI Cricket. Australia, England and Sri Lanka have seen 5 such instances from their players in this format. 345 – Runs conceded by Umesh Yadav in this series. These are the 2nd most runs conceded by a bowler in a 5-match bilateral ODI series. Bhuvneshwar Kumar conceded 347 during India-South Africa series last year. 123 – Rohit-Dhawan’s partnership of 123 runs is the 2nd highest opening partnership for India in Australia vs Australia. Highest is 124 runs between Ravi Shastri and K Srikkanth at Melbourne in 1985. 231.48 – Average runs scored by either of side in this series before loss of 3rd wicket. Previous highest was 211.59 runs during Pakistan-Zimbabwe’s 3-match ODI series hosted by Pakistan in 2015. 2014 – Last time India picked a wicket in very first over of opposition was in November, 2014 against Sri Lanka at Kolkata. 441 – Rohit Sharma finished with 441 runs in this series. He now has the most runs by a player in a bilateral ODI series in Australia. He overhauled Jonathan Trott, who scored 375 runs in 2011 series. 139.28 – Shikhar Dhawan’s strike rate of 139.28 is the best strike rate in a 50+ innings by an Indian in Australia vs Australia. Dhawan overhauled Rahul Dravid’s 115.64 (74 off 64 in 2004) during his innings. 4 – This was Rohit Sharma’s 4th match of the series award in ODIs.
