IPL 2025 News
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 will be the 18th edition of the mega-rich event. The tournament will feature 18 teams playing in 74 matches from March 22 to May 25. Kolkata Knight Riders are the defending champions, having won their third title after beating Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2024 finals.
The IPL is a franchise league organised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). It started in 2008, and it is held every year since then in India. In addition to playing once against the other four teams in the other group, each team will play twice against the teams in their group and the team in the same row in the other group.
The top four teams in terms of total points at the end of the group stage will advance to the playoffs. This phase involves competition between the top two teams (in a match called "Qualifier 1") and the other two teams (in a match called "Eliminator"). The losing team will play the winning team of the Eliminator match (in a match called "Qualifier 2"), while the winner of Qualifier 1 advances straight to the final match. The winner of this second Qualifier 2 match advances to the final match to face the Qualifier 1 winner.
