South African Chinaman bowler Tabraiz Shamsi has been fined 50% of his match fee for showing ‘serious dissent’ against the umpires in the finals of Carribean Premier League on September 9th. The match was held between Trinbago Knight Riders and St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots. An official release from the CPL said that the bowler admitted to a Level 2 breach of the code of conduct of he tournament.

The Trinidad based franchise went to win their second CPL Title in 3 seasons. Previously, the Trinidad and Tobago Red Steels also won the title in 2015. Their side was captained by DJ Bravo while the Patriots were captained by ‘Universal Boss’ Chris Gayle.

After winning the toss, the Carribean cousins of Kolkata Knight Riders put the Patriots into bat first. It was only due to the late resurgence from Mohammad Nabi and Carlos Brathwaite that St. Kitts and Nevis managed a total of 135 after losing 6 wicket in their allotted 20 overs.

Trinbago in reply suffered a collapse after being reduced to 90-7 in the 15th over. The incident involving Tabraiz Shamsi occurred during the 13th over of the innings where Shamsi was on a roll after picking the wicket of Hamza Tariq. Shamsi trapped Javon Searles right in front of the line of the stumps with a straighter one which was turned down by the umpire.

This infuriated the South African and as a result, the Chinaman bowler lashed out at the umpire by displaying his frustration and with his angry gestures towards him.

Kevon Cooper, after picking up a couple of wickets, came in with his team staring at defeat. With 22 needed off the last two overs, Ben Hilfenhaus was handed the penultimate over of the innings. Hilfenhaus gave away the required runs in his over as Cooper stitched a match winning partnership with Dinesh Ramdin and smashed a 14 ball 29 to win it for his side. Cooper, who played for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL, was adjudged as the man of the match, while Chadwick Walton was adjudged as the player of the series.
