The Indian team rose to No.2 in the ICC ODI team rankings with a win over Australia in the 2nd ODI at Kolkata. They entered the game behind Australia in the decimals and with a 50-run win are now marginally separated from the No.1 ranked team, South Africa. Team India had 117 rating in their account before the game and has 119 now same as that of the Proteas but the Men in Blue haven’t taken them over yet.

With 5,599 points in their account from 47 matches, the ratings for the Indian team is 119.13 (exactly 119.12766) whereas South Africa owns the numero uno position with 5,957 points from 50 matches which accounts to 119.14 ratings. Though the difference in the ratings is that of just 0.01 it still separates the No.1 ranked team from the second in the rankings table.

Australia, on the other hand with their second successive defeat at the hands of hosts India dropped to No.3 and the rating points in their account depleted by 2 and are left with 115. Now, as the series moves to the Holkar Stadium in Indore where the 3rd ODI will be played on Sunday, September 24 a win there will take the home team to the pole position and will complement their No.1 ranking in the Test format.

Given by the form the hosts have shown thus far especially their bowlers having defended two almost par total in the first two matches of the series it looks unlikely that they will allow the Australians to make a comeback in Indore and the tone of the series will continue on the nodes it has been set with thus far.

Ratings based on the result of the India v Australia series:

India win 5-0- India 122, Australia 113

India win 4-1- India 120, Australia 114

India win 3-2- India 118, Australia 116

Australia win 3-2- Australia 118, India 116
