Team-wise one best player of IPL 2020

The Indian Premier League 2020 broke several records in terms of social media engagement and viewership this year. The 13th season of the IPL featured top-level competition. Almost every top cricketer on the planet participated in this competition. This year, the challenge was a bit different for all players. Generally, the players have months of match practice heading into the IPL season, but because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Indian cricketers entered the tournament with zero match practice. The foreign players had played some games. Still, playing 14 matches in six weeks in the hot and humid conditions of the United Arab Emirates was a challenge for them. Many big names struggled to get going in IPL 2020. However, there were also some standout performances in the league. In this article, we will have a look at the one player from each team who impressed the most in the 13th IPL season: 1. Chennai Super Kings – Sam Curran Sam Curran. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) The Chennai Super Kings had a forgettable season in IPL 2020. The Chennai-based franchise had finished in the top four in every season that they played. Unfortunately, their campaign ended before the playoffs this year. That said, there were still a few positives for the three-time champions in 2020. While Ruturaj Gaikwad won everyone’s hearts with his hat-trick of half-centuries in the last three matches, all-rounder Sam Curran delivered the goods in both departments. Dwayne Bravo was unavailable for the first few matches, which prompted MS Dhoni to give the Englishman his maiden CSK cap. Curran starred for the team in their win against the Mumbai Indians. He ended the season with 13 wickets in 14 matches. Besides, he also scored 186 runs at a strike rate of 131.91. With his all-round brilliance in IPL 2020, the southpaw has cemented his place in the Chennai Super Kings for the next few seasons at least. 2. Kings XI Punjab – KL Rahul KL Rahul. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) Wicket-keeper batsman KL Rahul was in top form during the first quarter of 2020. It seemed like the COVID-19 pandemic break would hurt Rahul’s performance in IPL 2020. However, the new Kings XI Punjab skipper silenced his critics with a magnificent performance at the top. Although KXIP could not qualify for the playoffs, Rahul finished the season with 670 runs in 14 matches. The right-handed batsman broke Rishabh Pant’s record for the highest individual score by an Indian batsman in IPL history. His 132* against the Royal Challengers Bangalore helped the Mohali-based franchise record their first win of the competition. KXIP went on a losing streak after that win, but they bounced back in style in the second half. KL Rahul showed off his brilliant captaincy skills as the Kings XI were in contention to make it to the top four despite losing six of their first seven matches. Eventually, losing their last two matches did not allow Punjab to qualify for the playoffs. Otherwise, Rahul could have easily surpassed the 700-run milestone in IPL 2020. 3. Delhi Capitals – Shikhar Dhawan Shikhar Dhawan. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) Despite losing his wicket for a duck four times in IPL 2020, Shikhar Dhawan has managed to aggregate over 600 runs in the United Arab Emirates. He is one of the only two batsmen to achieve this feat in 2020. The southpaw became the first batsman in IPL history to register two consecutive centuries. Heading into IPL 2020, Dhawan did not have a single IPL century to his name. However, in the 13th IPL season, he blasted the Kings XI Punjab and the Chennai Super Kings bowling departments to record back-to-back three-figure scores. The highlight of Dhawan’s IPL 2020 campaign was his strike rate. Generally, Dhawan did not play so aggressively in the powerplay, but then pressed the accelerator. The Delhi Capitals star has a strike rate of 145.65 in this season, and his 64 fours and 12 sixes have played a significant role in it. It goes without saying that the Delhi Capitals have made it to their maiden IPL final majorly because of Dhawan’s performances. 4. Kolkata Knight Riders – Eoin Morgan Eoin Morgan (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) English limited-overs skipper Eoin Morgan made his IPL captaincy debut this year. Dinesh Karthik led the Kolkata Knight Riders in the first half of the season. Then, he wished to focus on his batting performances, and thus, he handed over the reins of the team to his English teammate. Morgan did not have a fine outing as a captain. The two-time IPL winners could win only three of the seven matches they played under his captaincy. Still, the southpaw ended the season as the best overseas player of his team. He scored 418 runs in 14 innings at a batting average of 41.80. The fact that Morgan batted in the middle-order and turned up with some handy knocks pretty much highlighted why he was KKR’s best player in IPL 2020. Unfortunately, the Kolkata-based franchise could not earn a place in the playoffs because of their inferior net run rate. 5. Mumbai Indians – Jasprit Bumrah Jasprit Bumrah of Mumbai Indians. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) Gujarat-based fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah broke Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s all-time record for the most wickets by an Indian bowler in a single IPL season. Despite missing a league fixture against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, Bumrah scalped 27 wickets in IPL 2020. His bowling average of 13.93 was one of the best this year. Talking about his achievements in the 13th IPL season, Bumrah had never taken an IPL four-wicket haul before this year. However, in IPL 2020, he accomplished this feat twice. The Mumbai Indians had suffered a major loss when Lasith Malinga pulled out of the event due to personal reasons. But Jasprit Bumrah managed to forme a terrific partnership with Trent Boult. The Indo-Kiwi duo ended up giving sleepless nights to the opposition batsmen. He didn’t get a wicket in the final but was fairly economical 6. Royal Challengers Bangalore – AB de Villiers AB de Villiers. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) The Royal Challengers Bangalore were one of the favourites to win the IPL 2020 championship, especially after their performance in the first half of the season. Their bowling attack looked stronger than ever, while Chris Morris’ presence gave the RCB lineup some much-needed balance. However, they crashed out of the tournament after losing five matches in a row. Despite losing their last four matches, the Bangalore-based franchise somehow made it to the Eliminator. AB de Villiers sparkled as always but he did not get enough support from the other batsmen. The likes of Virat Kohli, Devdutt Padikkal, Aaron Finch, Shivam Dube, and Josh Philippe could not perform well when it mattered the most. AB de Villiers was the best player for the Royal Challengers this year. He helped the team win a close match against the Rajasthan Royals, and he ended the season with 454 runs in 14 innings. None of the Indian batsmen in the RCB squad had a strike rate of over 130, and there was de Villiers who aggregated 450+ runs at a strike rate of 158.74. 7. Sunrisers Hyderabad – Rashid Khan Rashid Khan. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) Afghan leg-spinner Rashid Khan was expected to make a huge impact in IPL 2020. The primary reason behind it was that he had played a lot of matches in the UAE. Khan lived up to the expectations as he emerged as the most successful bowler for the Orange Army in the 13th IPL season. The right-arm leggie did not only scalp the wickets in the middle overs but he also kept a check on the run flow. Rashid ended the season with 20 wickets to his name in 16 matches. His economy rate of 5.38 shows how much the opposition batsmen struggled while facing his deliveries. That said, Rashid will aim to improve his batting performances in the next season. The team needed his quickfire cameos in a few matches, but the rising star could manage only 35 runs in 16 matches. Rashid Khan will hold the key to SRH’s success in the 2021 season as well. 8. Rajasthan Royals – Rahul Tewatia Rahul Tewatia. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) The biggest surprise package of IPL 2020 was the Rajasthan Royals’ all-rounder Rahul Tewatia. The Royals had gained his services in the trade window before the 13th IPL season. The Delhi Capitals might be regretting over their decision to release Tewatia because he could have been a solid finisher for them. The uncapped player came into the limelight after he hit five sixes off Sheldon Cottrell’s over in the match between the inaugural champions and the Kings XI Punjab at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. Prior to that match, he had taken a three-wicket haul versus the Chennai Super Kings. Tewatia scalped 10 wickets in 14 matches for the Royals. His economy rate of 7.09 signifies that he made it tough for the batsmen to score big runs off him. Besides, he also scored 255 runs with the bat. It is likely that the Rajasthan Royals will not release him from their squad for the next few IPL seasons.
