The tale of an intruding and compassionate journey of Pakistan's Arshad Khan

The former Pakistan off-spinner seems to be finding it difficult to make ends meet following an elusive cricket career.

From the years of inception of the game, many great cricketers have emerged with thunderous and featuring performances to revolutionize the entire dimension of the sport. But there have also been several names who started their cricketing career on a promising and bright note but were then forced to suffer a disheartening end to the prestigious passage. Each of those players may have had an immense amount of talent and abilities in their baggage for which they were granted with the huge opportunity of playing the game for their respective countries. Former Pakistan spinner Arshad Khan is one of those steadiest personalities who struck the paradise of misfortune after gaining some recognition through the sport.

Khan’s story from a cricketer to now a taxi driver in Australia

Arshad Khan made his international debut for Pakistan in the longest format in 1997 as a right-arm off-break bowler in the team in the series against the Windies. However, he failed to relish his effectiveness according to his abilities at the big stage in the opening games played. But the spinner delivered with a stunning spell against Sri Lanka where he bagged his maiden and only five-wicket haul in Test matches, which also helped his team clinch the Asian Test Championship finale in 1998.Khan then went on to play 9 Tests for his national team, in which he scalped a total of 32 wickets at an average of 30 and played his last encounter in the longest format in his national colors against the arch-rivals India in 2005.

He was also awarded an ODI debut before his Test cricket stint which happened back in 1993 against Zimbabwe at the Sharjah Cricket Association Stadium. The offie featured in 60 ODIs for the Pakistani team in which he picked up 57 wickets at an economy of 4.18. But after a quite and seasonal run in international cricket in his entire career, he was dropped from the side. During that time former Pakistani legendary spinner Saqlain Mushtaq was on a roll which slightly lessened the opportunities for others like Arshad.

However, his international career reached the alarming and kneeling state, when he entered the rebel Indian Cricket League, which disrupted his entire image earned from the game. After an encouraging course with cricket, Khan shifted to Sydney, in Australia in the search for a better living and however, then switched his profession to a taxi driver there. His cricketing dreams suffered a rather dramatic and emotional ending.
