The Senior Selection Committee consisting of Chairman M.S.K. Prasad, Devang Gandhi and Sarandeep Singh, as well as India-A coach Rahul Dravid, met here in the evening. Alongside the announcement of the Indian squads, the selectors even named India A side for the four-day games.

Karun Nair who was included in the one-off Test against Afghanistan was named the captain for the UK tour. After staying out of the Indian team for a reasonable amount of time, he was brought back in the absence of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in the test squad.

It was the best opportunity to get Karun Nair back

The 26-year-old was dropped from the test team after a string of poor performances. However, his recent exploits in the Ranji Trophy where he scored above 600 runs for Karnataka paid off. The right-handed batsman has also rewarded the leadership role for India A tour to the UK.

Karun Nair became the second Indian to score a triple century after Virender Sehwag. He scored an unbeaten 303* against England during 2016. However, he failed to come off later. Also with the high competitiveness in the squad, he ended up losing his spot in the playing XI.

“This was the best opportunity for us to give Karun Nair a chance because he’s been doing well,” Prasad stated according to HT.

We keep track of every domestic match played in India

Prasad didn’t fail to share credit with his committee regarding their contribution to watching players closely. He asserted that every match was being tracked. He further provided information as to how various match officials in the domestic circuit had been influential in passing on their inputs.

“Credit to my colleagues because one thing that I am very proud of our committee is that we keep track of every match. We have designed a strategy where match referees give their reports on those matches, which we have not watched. So we keep track of every domestic match played in India. Also, we talk to the senior boys and take their inputs,” Prasad said according to HT.
