Shakib Al Hasan, the Bangladesh all-rounder, had a pretty rough time after he was handed a ban by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for not disclosing corrupt approaches made by bookies. He returned to competitive cricket in the inaugural Bangabandhu T20 Cup where he played for the Gemcon Khulna, the eventual champions, under the leadership of Mahmudullah Riyad.

The Magura-born returned to international cricket during the ODI series against West Indies. In the very first game at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, he picked up four wickets to break the backbone of the Caribbean batting unit. Thereafter, the veteran has had a few injury concerns and he also missed the second Test against the West Indies in Mirpur.

Moreover, he also registered himself in the 2021 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction at a base price of INR 2 crores. He made his debut for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2011 after which he went to the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in 2018.

The Orange Army kept him for two seasons after which they released him. Earlier, former Indian cricketer, Ashish Nehra felt that Shakib would be the most expensive buy in the auction. Nehra said that Shakib adds the required balance to any team.

“Again, one more IPL auction and plenty of big names, but one name, which according to me is right on top can be the most expensive player of this IPL auction is Bangladesh all-rounder, Shakib Al Hasan (former captain). He can give balance to any IPL team in any T20,” Nehra was quoted as saying on Star Sports’ show Cricket Connected Auction Special.

In the auction, KKR opened the bidding at INR 2 crores, after which Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) joined in. However, might be to the surprise of many, the bidding didn’t turn out to be an intensified one. In the end, Eoin Morgan’s KKR picked him up at a price of INR 3.20 crores.

Back in 2012 and 2014, Shakib was a part of the Knights, who had won the IPL in those years. For the time being, the netizens are speaking about Shakib’s inclusion in the Knights.
