Gemcon Khulna clinched the Bangabandhu T20 Cup with a 5-run victory over the Gazi Group Chattogram during the final played on Friday. The Khulna’s skipper Mahmudullah Riyad stared with the bat scoring an unbeaten 70 from 48 with eight fours and two sixes. Mahmudullah’s resilience despite regular wickets helped Khulna finish with 155/7. Chattogram’s chase got slowed down after they lost the wicket of Soumya Sarkar and fell behind in the required rate. Saikat Ali hit four sixes during his 45-ball 53 but Khulna team got away with a narrow win.

Here are all the statistical highlights from Gemcon Khulna’s victory during the Bangabandhu T20 Cup final:

Mahmudullah ends his T20 final jinx:

1 – The Friday’s final was the first instance of Mahmudullah Riyad finishing on winning side in a Twenty20 tournament final. He had been part of four T20 finals before but ended up on the losing side despite scoring 20+ runs in all those four. Mahmudullah now has 216 runs across five finals in the T20 format at an average of 54.

224 – Mahmudullah’s maiden appearance in a T20 final win came in his 224th Twenty20 match. This meant Mahmudullah’s brother-in-law, Mushfiqur Rahim is now the only player from Bangladesh to not feature in a T20 final win despite playing 200+ T20s. Mushfiqur has appeared in 202 T20s thus far and completed 200 T20 appearances during the league phase of the Bangabandhu tournament only.

If not for the Friday’s finale, Mahmudullah would have been second on the list of most number of appearances in the Twenty20 cricket without being part of a T20 final win. Amit Mishra tops the charts with as many as 232 appearances in T20 cricket without winning a T20 final.

Yet another win in a T20 final for Mortaza:

5/6 – Mashrafe Mortaza has been part of six finals in the Twenty20 format but the Bangabandhu T20 Cup final was the first time where he was not the captain of the side. He ended up on the winning side on five occasions including during the Friday’s finale. The 2016 Asia Cup final against India was the only time a team with Mortaza in the playing XI ended up on the losing side in a T20 final.

A dream season for the Fizz:

22 – Mustafizur Rahman bagged a total of 22 wickets during the Bangabandhu T20 Cup; the joint 2nd most number of wickets by any Bangladesh player during a T20 series/tournament.

Shakib Al Hasan leads the list with 23 wickets during the 2018 BPL while Taskin Ahmed, Mashrafe Mortaza and Rubel Hossain picked 22 wickets apiece in the same tournament. Shakib also took as many as 22 wickets during the 2017 edition of BPL as well.

Milestones on Bangladesh soil:

100 – Mustafizur Rahman completed 100 wickets in the Twenty20 format on Bangladesh soil in only 70 matches. Mustafizur is now the 6th player to bag 100+ T20 wickets in Bangladesh with Shakib Al Hasan (170 wickets) on the top.

3024 – Mahmudullah completed 3000 runs in the Twenty20 format on Bangladesh soil during his unbeaten 70-run knock. He is now the 3rd player after Tamim Iqbal (3482 runs) and Mushfiqur Rahim (3313 runs) with 3000+ T20 runs in Bangladesh.
