A few days ago, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) named a 15-member squad for the World Cup, scheduled to start on Thursday, May 30 in England and Wales. The notable exclusion from the team was that of fast-bowler Taskin Ahmed. The young pacer previously made a comeback in the national team when he was selected for the limited-overs series against New Zealand.

The 24-year-old Taskin had a superlative campaign for the Sylhet Sixers in the 2019 edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), picking up as many as 22 wickets. Unfortunately, he developed an ankle injury and hence missed out on the series. The Dhaka-born seamer also couldn’t make the cut for the One Day series in Ireland, also involving the hosts and the Windies.

The series is scheduled to start on Sunday, May 05. The Tigers are set to play the opening game of the triangular series against the Caribbean team on Tuesday, May 7 at the Clontarf Cricket Club Ground in Dublin. In the meantime, it has been learned that the selectors have included Taskin for the Ireland games and it was confirmed by the board as per reports in bdcrictime.com.

Farhad Reza- The other inclusion

Taskin recently played in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) one-day tournament and picked up six wickets in three matches with his best figures of 4/54. Apart from Taskin, the selectors also have included Farhad Reza for the series prior to the mega event. Reza scored 207 runs at an average of 25.87. Moreover, he picked up a colossal 38 wickets with three four-fers and one five-fer.

Hence, the squad size for the series is now 19. Batsman Yasir Ali and Naeem Hasan are the other players in the team, both of whom aren’t in the World Cup squad. As far as the WC squad is concerned, a team can make changes to their squad until May 23 and it’s a chance for all of Yasir, Naeem and Taskin to churn out impressive performances and make a case for themselves.
