Mumbai Indians (MI) won their second game in a row as they defeated Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by seven wickets on Thursday, April 11 at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

After winning the toss and opting to bowl first, Mumbai Indians picked up two wickets inside the first four overs, including the prized scalp of Virat Kohli. Faf du Plessis and Rajat Patidar registered their first half-centuries in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 and took RCB to a solid position at 105/2 in the 12th over. However, they lost wickets through the middle overs and also at the death as Jasprit Bumrah picked up a sensational five-for.

Dinesh Karthik's stunning knock of 53* off 23 balls helped Bengaluru get to a fighting score of 196/8. However, it was well short of what would have been a par score on the belter of a track that greeted the two teams.

In reply, Mumbai openers - Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan fired on all cylinders and notched up a 100-run partnership inside the first nine overs. The latter was dismissed after scoring an exhilarating 69 off 34 balls. Suryakumar Yadav came in as the Impact Player and looked at his fluent best from the get-go. His 19-ball 52 made a mockery of the target and the five-time champions eventually won with 27 balls to spare.

1. Jasprit Bumrah becomes first bowler to take five-for versus RCB

Bumrah was in rampaging form and he started his masterful spell with the huge wicket of Orange Cap-holder Kohli in his first over. It was just a teaser of the storm that was about to hit RCB as the legendary pacer took the wickets of du Plessis, Mahipal Lomror, Saurav Chauhan, and Vijaykumar Vyshak to finish with phenomenal figures of 5/21 in his four overs. This was only his second five-for in the IPL and with this monumental effort, he has joined Yuzvendra Chahal at the top of the list of wicket-takers for the season. Both of them have ten wickets after playing five matches each.

2. Suryakumar Yadav sets Wankhede Stadium ablaze with his fastest IPL fifty

Suryakumar Yadav returned to competitive cricket for the first time in 2024 during Mumbai's last encounter against Delhi Capitals. However, he was dismissed for a duck. The flamboyant batter didn't miss out in his second outing as he put the RCB bowlers to the sword and punished good and bad balls alike. During his breathtaking innings of 52 off 19 balls, the 33-year-old hit five fours and four sixes. He reached his half-century off just 17 balls, which is his fastest in the IPL.

3. Dinesh Karthik's blistering knock goes in vain

The wicketkeeper-batter was in sparkling form in the first innings. As wickets kept falling from the other end, Karthik kept his composure and hit a 23-ball 53 to take Bengaluru close to the 200-run mark. He hit five fours and four sixes during his stupendous knock. The veteran reached his half-century off just 21 balls. Karthik completed 150 sixes and 450 fours in his IPL career during the innings that helped the Royal Challengers end their innings with great momentum.
