Maharashtra's Ruturaj Gaikwad went hell for leather in the ongoing quarterfinal of the Vijay Hazare Trophy against Uttar Pradesh as he became the first batter in cricketing history to hit seven sixes in one over.

Maharashtra are locking horns with Uttar Pradesh in the ongoing quarterfinal contest of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ground 'B' in Motera. Skipper Ruturaj blasted as many as seven maximums off left-arm spinner, Shiva Singh in a single over during the contest.

Earlier, Uttar Pradesh won the toss and elected to field first but couldn't get past Ruturaj as he played a blistering knock of 220* runs off just 159 balls.

During the first innings of the match, the opener single-handedly led his side to score a competitive total of 330 runs in their stipulated 50 overs. Gaikwad in the 49th over aggregated 43 runs off left-arm off-spinner Shiva Singh and also completed his double century during the same. He amassed four sixes off the first four balls followed by a no-ball coupled with a maximum and then concluded with two sixes.

The swashbuckling right-hander has got 21 hundreds to his name now in domestic cricket since 2021. The player also achieved another feat in the match as he equaled Rohit Sharma's record for the most sixes by an Indian in List A in a single innings with 16 sixes.

The masterclass performance by the Maharashtra captain will surely hand a major boost to the side when they hit the field in the second innings to defend 330 runs. Uttar Pradesh have a massive total to chase and will need to be on their toes in reply.
