Yet another day and yet another defeat for Chennai Super Kings! The defending champions have now suffered their third consecutive loss in IPL 2022 with Punjab Kings being the latest to thrash them. Riding on Liam Livingstone’s all-round brilliance, the Mayank Agarwal-led side recorded a 54–run win. With two wins in three games, PBKS have now entered the top four in the team standings.

Earlier in the game, Chennai Super Kings won the toss and opted to bowl at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. Mukesh Choudhary justified skipper Ravindra Jadeja’s decision as he dismissed PBKS captain Mayank Agarwal in the very first over. Bhanuka Rajapaksa couldn’t do much either. Nonetheless, Shikhar Dhawan joined forces with Liam Livingstone and the duo steadied the ship with a 95-run stand for the third wicket.

Liam Livingstone was at his destructive best

Livingstone was the aggressor in the partnership as he tonked the ball all over the park and brought up his maiden IPL fifty. While he scored 60 off just 32 deliveries, Dhawan scored 33. An impressive 26 from debutant Jitesh Sharma took Punjab to 180/8 in their allotted 20 overs.

In reply, CSK got off to a horrendous start with Vaibhav Arora and Arshdeep Singh making the ball talk in the powerplay overs. As a result, the likes of Ruturaj Gaikwad, Robin Uthappa, Moeen Ali, Ambati Rayudu, and Ravindra Jadeja couldn’t do much as Chennai found themselves in a spot of bother at 36/5.

While Punjab’s win looked like a mere formality at that point, Shivam Dube decided not to go down without fighting. The southpaw played some delightful shots all over the park and scored his second IPL fifty. He eventually fell prey to Livingstone after scoring 57 off 30 deliveries. MS Dhoni looked out of touch as he took 28 balls to manage 23.

As a result, CSK were bundled out for 126 in 18 overs, losing the contest by 54 runs. While Rahul Chahar took three wickets for PBKS, Liam Livingstone and Vaibhav Arora dismissed two batters apiece.

Meanwhile, let’s look at how Twitter reacted to PBKS’ triumph:
