Twitter Reactions: Mumbai Indians adapt well to the Delhi turner to thump the Capitals

The Mumbai Indians (MI) read the surface well in the game against the Delhi Capitals (DC) and that proved to be the decisive factor in the game. The visitors were absolutely clinical in their execution on the day and an absolute turner at the Feroz Shah Kotla was more helpful to MI. The Capitals’ poor death bowling cost them the game eventually as Shreyas Iyer should’ve used his spinners properly in the first innings.

After being put into bat first, Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock batted extremely well to add 57 runs for the opening wicket. But then the pitch started to show its colours. The ball stayed alarmingly low for most parts of the innings then and it turned as well. Amit Mishra bowled a peach to castle Rohit Sharma and started off his spell in grand fashion. Ben Cutting was dismissed soon by Axar Patel.

Even Suryakumar Yadav couldn’t do much and before being dismissed ran out De Kock as well. However, the Pandya brothers, Krunal and Hardik, were the reason why MI managed to post a daunting total of 168 runs after 20 overs. While Hardik Pandya slammed 32 off 15 balls, Krunal played a vital 37-run knock batting at five as the innings ended with the momentum on their side.

The Delhi Capitals needed a quick-fire start in the chase at any cost and that was provided by Shikhar Dhawan. Prithvi Shaw also looked positive but couldn’t muster enough runs during his stay in the middle. The opening duo added 49 runs in less than seven overs but the fall of the first wicket led to a dip in run-rate and the wickets also fell.

Rahul Chahar bowled superbly to run through Delhi’s line-up. He ended with the figures of 3/19 and since then, the hosts never recovered as MI continued to pick wickets. They were never in the chase and MI were the deserved winners in the end. Delhi Capitals could only reach 128 runs after 20 overs to lose the match by 40 runs.

With his victory, the Mumbai Indians have climbed to the second position in the points table and have now won six matches after playing nine.
