Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul were in all sorts of trouble at the start of 2019. Both the players’ decision to feature in talk show Koffee with Karan and then make controversial remarks nearly derailed their career. As soon as the episode aired, the BCCI called back the duo from Australia before the ODIs and suspended them immediately. There was absolutely no clue as to when the suspension will get over as the Pandya and Rahul’s careers were in limbo.
But soon the Committee of Administrators (CoA) lifted the suspension pending the appointment of an Ombudsman and things have fallen into place since then. After the suspension was lifted, Rahul joined India A camp for the home series against England Lions while Pandya flew to New Zealand for the ODI and the T20I series. They impressed soon and have hit the top gear in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL).
Rahul, playing for Kings XI Punjab, has already scored 4 fifties and a century to regain his form. In fact, the right-handed batsman is second in the list of highest run-scorers this season. So far, Rahul has scored 387 runs in 9 games at an average of over 64. Pandya, on the other hand, has scored 186 runs and has impressed one and all with his power-hitting. The all-rounder has scored his runs at an unbelievable strike-rate of 191.75.
Pandya’s birthday wish
Earlier this week, the two had another reason to celebrate as they made it to India’s 15-man World Cup squad. And Hardik Pandya is in no mood to slow down as he urged Rahul to make this year even better. With Rahul celebrating his 27th birthday on Thursday, Pandya took to Instagram to wish his teammate and posted a special message, writing, “Brothers for life !!!!! No matter what !!! Love u bro @rahulkl happy birthday. Let’s make it our year.”
Both the players deposed in front of the newly-appointed BCCI Ombudsman, Justice (retd.) DK Jain last week. A decision from Justice Jain is expected soon on the matter.
