Virat Kohli urges youngsters to take up the longer format of the game

On occasion of DDCA’s first ever annual conclave, Virat Kohli spoke on various aspects of the game. Lots of former cricketers including the likes of Bishan Bedi, Mohinder Amarnath, etc were present. The Indian captain has been on a high after the recent success the team has attained.

The Indian skipper appealed the youngsters to focus on Test cricket. He felt that the longer format of the game would help them enable their skills to perfection. He also spoke about Delhi cricket and being part of the association for a considerable period.

I would urge youngsters to take up Test cricket

Virat Kohli was of the opinion, that focus on test cricket was a must. He requested all the youngsters to concentrate in the longer format of the game.

“I believe Test cricket is paramount for the game to sustain globally. I would urge youngsters to take up longer version of the game,” he was quoted as saying by the PTI.

Recalling his earlier days as a youngster, Kohli told how Bishan Bedi used to make them train for hours. He mentioned how it had become a part of his life now.

“I remember when I played U14 and U16s for Delhi, Bedi sir would make us train too much. Now that’s become a part of my life,”

Kohli concluded saying, “It’s a huge honour to stand with all Delhi captains. I myself have been a Delhi captain,”

I have never seen someone more intense than Virat on field

Mincing no words, former Indian captain Bishan Bedi praised Kohli for the character he has shown. However, he was also critical on some aspects.

“I may not agree with some of his gestures on the field but I have not seen someone more intense than Virat on the field. I have never seen an Indian more intense than Virat. He will mellow down for sure but how much I have learnt watching Virat is unreal.”

Further speaking about the status of domestic cricket in the country and it’s importance, Bedi stated, “To play for India, figures in first-class cricket comes in handy. Ranji Trophy should be played for the sake of Ranji Trophy and Duleep for the sake of Duleep. I don’t understand the name of these teams like Red, Blue and Green,”

Bishan Bedi wasn’t just a captain but a leader of men

Mohinder Amarnath who is famously known for his stupendous performances in the 1983 World Cup praised Bedi for his contribution to Delhi Cricket.

“It was Bishan whose leadership gave Delhi cricket the respect. He was not just a captain but a leader of men,” Amarnath said.
